Welcome to Creativity and Multicultural Communication, a MOOC

Description: CMC11:
Course tag: #CMC11
Good Day, or Evening …
Many of you are about to embark on a different sort of learning journey that promises to be exciting and frustrating; rewarding and sometimes, difficult; and always, interesting and rich.  Those of you who are MOOC aficionados, or just MOOC savvy may find this to be a slightly different learning journey with a variety of people speaking from different perspectives from different disciplines.
We have researched and included ancillary materials for each week so that you will have some background perceptions.  Some of the material has been selected so you can “push back”, and some, you will find comfortable in theory and application.  All are designed to stir up the thought processes and allow you some incubation time before jumping into the connectivist pool.
The Orientation week live session, will be recorded, as will subsequent weeks’, and available for review for those who may have missed the initial broadcast.  We will do a bit of housekeeping discussion for navigation purposes within the template, and will offer some brief introductions of topics and people involved in the project.
Please remember to submit your RSS feeds so we can harvest and publish your commentary in the daily NewPosts.  Feel free to wander around among the weeks and discover what is happening and know that materials will be added as we go along.  The MOOC is a work in progress; lifelong learning is a work in progress … play and have fun on the journey.  We are now officially open … join us and bring your friends and colleagues … registrations are welcome at any time!
Your facilitators.

PS It would be great if you would add your RSS feeds so we can include your observations in the daily NewPosts.   Thanks to those who already have added theirs.

Title: Where to ask MetaQ's?
Preview: Gosh. I tried posting this on LinkedIn but chose the Global Communications group which was inappropriate. So I edited that post out of existence.

Then I pasted in my post on the LinkedIn "Creativity and Multicultural Communications" group but although the UI offered me a place to make a new post, it did not show up.

So I'm trying here, once again, I'm sorta having a convo with myself at this point, he-he.

Where is the best place to ask meta-questions about the course ... How
To, Where Is, that sort of thing?

Also I started a mind map of questions about and issues with the
gRSShopper platform, and general questions about how the course works.
Again, where's the best place to post a link? I'm thinking others might
want to add their advance questions, in case that might help the
orientation facilitator(s) receive a collated set of Qs prior to Thursday's session.

So... mindmap link here or on the main site? (Or nowhere at all if it's not a welcome idea.) As you have no doubt
surmised by now, one of the things I'm struggling with is the
decentralization of our communications across LinkedIn groups, Google
Groups, personal blogs, comments on personal blogs, and the Discussions
area of the CMC11 site ... I had thought this site might be the best place
for general questions since not everyone belongs to every channel ...but it seems discussions are not really started here as a matter of course, they are always pulled in from somewhere else ...

Can we have some sort of Meta Course Q forum?

MInd you, I am thoroughly enjoying myself in all channels! Very excited about this course. Just a little bit at a loss trying to find "my place" for posting and also at a roadblock regarding setting up my blog because I have questions I need answers to (so you guys don't end up seeing my blog posts about completely irrelevant matters, for example)

thanks in advance for shedding any clarity & light,

Title: First day of MOOC!

Hi Betty,

I have always been a foreigner, all my life actually. I am from Greece but born in Germany. Then we moved to Greece, where I was treated like a German, despite the fact that I am 100% Greek. My journey then brought me to the UK, a foreigner again or still. I am mentioning my life journey so far because the theme of this MOOC made me really think about how my personal multicultural adventures have influenced my approach to creativity and communication. I had to become creative in order to communicate and it wasn't and still isn't always easy to use words (words done come easy, as the song says). So I think, necessity made me think perhaps more creatively because I was so desperate to communicate with others. It hasn't always worked and I am still struggling but, through being explosed to different cultures and environments and trying to communicate with different people from different cultures because I want to, I feel that I am learning .......

Hello RetSam Zhang (not sure if if this is your full name, first name and/or surname), please excuse me if made a mistake ;o(

Thank you for your kind words. Just found these discussions here. Was initially in Google docs but felt a bit frustrated because I kept loosing the threads. I am sure it is me... and my in-ability to think linear. ;o)

Anyway, I have started reading through the materials and accessing the other resources  too. Discovered some gems already but will come back to find people who would like to discuss things that move them and me.

Preview: Very nice. I've always used OmniGraffle on my desktop but of course that does not lend itself to collaboration. The downside to cloud apps, of course, is occasional worries about sensitive content living on someone else's server or perhaps being shared with the government (anything older than 6 mos in the U.S. does not, I have read, require a subpoena process) ... and viability of the vendor (what happens if they fold one day, start over recreating all docs/maps/diagrams?). In spite of these worries, though, the ability to access from any computer and to collaborate with others ....

For now, I'm unpacking (feeds to #CMC folder), getting oriented (checking out page again and new blogs) and generally settling in. I just joined the Google group but LinkedIn can wait. For some reason I couldn't subscribe to the newsletter so just burned a feed for my reader. The familiarity of the gRSShopper generated format is comforting.
