Preview: Never made this connection. I read Arabic fluently because I began reading the Holy Quran at the age of six. Conversational Arabic however,is an on-going project for me. I keep the books that I study from on my headboard. I know when I am truly understanding once I begin to dream in Arabic and mentally translate all of the time.I do recall listening to a news story a few years back, stating ....

Preview: Ruth, that's an interesting point about using words that may have different meanings to different people. Thai people use a lot of English words like computer, football, corruption, and so on. The English word they use that used to drive me nuts was the word 'fit'. If we say something fits, it means it the right size. In Thai if something is 'fit,' it means it is too ....

Preview: I'm not bilingual but know some French and Spanish from high school and sometimes watch movies where I choose one of those language subtitles.   Translations can change a concept the way meaning changes when you use a thesaurus and plug various similar yet different words into a sentence.  If you know more than one language, you stand a better chance of finding the precise ....
