Post Title: A New Generation of Internet Citizens
By wildmntnhoney, Feed Name: Can the Internet Produce Utopian Worlds?
Preview: They are 5, 6, 7, 8 years old. They ask to Skype with their cousin; they play games online on kid-friendly sites; they have YouTube playlists filled with cute bunnies and Pokemon music and Mario on hyper-speed. They are the new generation of internet citizens. I owned a computer before internet was widely available, and … Continue reading »

Post Title: Response to Survival of the Fasted - posted on blog
By Cecc1, Feed Name: Colleen's Blog
Preview: There is a huge difference between information and knowledge. Information can be random, infinite, overwhelming, exciting, motivating, daunting, etc... Information becomes knowledge when it has been received, assimilated and digested. It sparks the creative process when it is used to produce something else - a work, a thought, an idea, an image. There is an inherent limit to the amount of ....

Post Title: Reflections Repost
By Cecc1, Feed Name: Colleen's Blog
Preview: Watched Forrest Gump with my 9 year old the other night. Concerned that it would be tough for him to follow but he stuck with it to the end. In last few minutes he asked me "Mom, what is the theme for this movie?" (He's studying themes in school). I said I thought the theme was about destiny - whether you are born to destiny or make your own. This morning we were talking about it again ....

Title: Personal learning enviroments
Preview: Those are really wonderful contemplations.I've personally been really unhappy with public school (we're in NY) in recent years. The new Core Curriculum Standards coupled with consistently reduced resources for schools has resulted in some really nasty realities for kids. For example, my son is in K and the new standards require him to spell 100 words, name 6 different vertices, and .......

Title: This isn't summer camp
Preview: If the majority of online content creation is done by people likely unfamiliar with any learning theory (as happens where I work) then the working formula is bound to be: more flash = deeper learning. It would be very nice if this turned out to be true for those who support media as key to the learner's brain but really it doesn't have to be true as long as people believe it (and .......

Title: Diigo: bookmarking & much more
Preview: There are so many ways to harvest, save, share, archive, organize links, etc ~ aka bookmarking. I've been using Diigo increasingly with MOOCs, although not exclusively. In particular, I particularly appreciate the feature for highlighting and annotating actual pages. I have even used it for entire books at the Gutenberg Project. Using comment feature as forum to discuss shared works is .......

Title: Re: Utopian Justice
Preview: I do a lot of work in the field of Family Court, including the inner workings of CPS, in NY. Something I've come to realize is that justice can only be acquired when one has agency; without agency, there is little sense of self-worth; without self-worth there is no confidence to do the work that needs doing to see justice. That's exactly the problem with many people who are involved in ....

Title: Re: Diigo: bookmarking & much more
Preview: Ahhh, guilty as charged!  I have not been using the annotation feature of recent bookmarking.  I do try to use descriptive tags as best I can ... and yet, I am not using Diigo to its best advantage. One sidenote for thse who see no point to twitter usage ... I often find great resources and do not have the time to focus on reading them, I send the tweet to myself and then, bookmark to ....
