Howard GardnerWhile creativity is not limited to the arts (music, fine art, dance, film, writing and such) it does have some interesting perspectives when it comes to math, science and other pursuits of happiness.  Three noted individuals heldan interesting panel discussion around this topic and the recording is no0w available for your listening/.......

Post Title: On PLEs
By Mike, Feed Name: ESC Creativity and Multicultural Communication
Preview: Personal Learning Environments are proof that we are on the cusp of an educational revolution. For centuries, education has looked remarkably similar- we may have moved away from one-room country schoolhouses, but some of the most prestigious colleges in America are comprised of buildings that have been in use since the earliest years of the nation. But all of this is changing, and fast. With ....

Post Title: On Connectivism
By Mike, Feed Name: ESC Creativity and Multicultural Communication
Preview: Once again, I'm going to be working quite a bit this week to try to catch up with the rest of you, please bear with me. I think it's fitting that this subject of Connectivism is introduced so early in the course. After all, the whole point of a MOOC is getting the input of so many different people together at the same time. Stephen Downes really focused on this point, highlighting ....

Post Title: Introductions
By Mike, Feed Name: ESC Creativity and Multicultural Communication
Preview: Hey guys, sorry I'm late to the party. Not even fashionably late, just really, really late. My name is Mike Schiller and I'm an explorer. Ever since I was very young, my family moved around a lot. So I've lived in many different states, and that pretty much set me up for the rest of my life. Currently, I am living in western China, near the Tibetan border. It's a beautiful ....

Post Title: Digging Diigo ...
By cyeager, Feed Name: CMC11
Preview: for bookmarking and discussion ~ we have a group site @ CDL_CMC11 for Diigo and one can use it as a bookmarking service (offline, in a cloud to save precious hard drive space) as well as a discussion space. In the most recent time period a long term MOOC participant and myself are the only ones using it. What a shame as it really is a great option for learning and then going back to see what ....

Post Title: Creative Resolutions
By Jon Bunch, Feed Name: Jon Bunch
Preview: #cmc11From my experiences in the workplace there has been a noticeable difference between people that just use typical troubleshooting or problem solving techniques to solve a variety of issues compared to those who tend to think outside the box and tackle the problem from a different approach. Instead of waiting for a creative idea to happen, they tend to take a standardized approach to solve ....

Title: Creativity
Preview: This is more of a suggested resource than a discussion though discussing the content of the article would be great. The March 2013 Scientific American has an article called: "Evolution of Creativity the rise of the innovative mind" that covers a number of topics related to idea formation in the self and in society. Good synthesis of research from a number of sources--worth ...

Title: Digging Diigo ...
Preview: Using Diggo to comment on bookmarked articles could model how to start and engage a discussion with this social comment bookmarking feature. The next (not imo 'instead of') step would be to connect that discussion to others. For example, by adding to an existing discussion thread, posting a notice/invitation (+ link) to a CMC11 group about the discussion ~ or both. The comment .......

Title: Re: Digging Diigo ...
Preview: We can't really dig Diggo or other discussion unless we connect conversations here, on Diigo and elsewhere without sharing links. The connectivist mode calls for redundancy in sharing. Discussion on Facebook stays in Facebook. Fight Club rules are not connectivist: neither is the Facebook universal walled garden missionThere are also complications to using Discussion for commenting on ....

Title: Re: Utopian Justice
Preview: Justice is a very good term here--and maybe more powerful than the more polite "autonomy", self-respect or even "agency." Many of the students at our small community college seem numb and helpless from a life where no one ever acknowledged them, leaving them essentially voiceless. Robbing people of being themselves is an awful injustice but as you say is not always done with intention. I wonder ....
